1. Make extra money
Selling on eBay can generate a new stream of income. If you are like most moms, a little extra money can go a long way in your family. And like most people, you probably have a house full of stuff that you never use and probably have not even seen in 10 years. While this stuff is not worth much to you anymore, you would be surprised at how much it is worth to someone else.
Years ago, when I graduated from college, I went into business with a buddy of mine. Neither of us wanted to get traditional, “9 to 5” jobs, but we knew that we still had to pay our bills. Like most people, we realized that we had both accumulated a tremendous amount of stuff that was no longer of much worth to us. Through eBay, we discovered how to turn our “worthless” stuff into cash. We quickly parlayed that cash into a small business involving eBay sales and achieved our dream of paying our bills with a non-traditional occupation.
Do you have clothes that your children have grown out of? Toys that they don’t play with anymore? Think about the contents of your attic or basement. There are probably dozens of items cluttering up these spaces that someone out there would pay cash for. eBay is your vehicle to connect with those people.
2. It’s quick and easy
As a stay-at-home mom, you are a very busy woman. If you want a part time job, it needs to fit your schedule and not take up too much of your time. Selling on eBay achieves both goals. Feel free to set up auctions and pack and ship items on your own schedule. Indeed, with the automated, worry-free system, you don’t even have to be there to accept payment.
With your own online selling business, you can work as little or as much as you want. Take it easy over the summer, while the kids are home. Then increase your sales once they go back to school. Plus, you will never work another holiday or weekend again!
3. Use and develop your creativity
Can you think of something you have created that other people would pay money for? Do you sew festive costumes for your children? Do you have a baked good that is a favorite of all your neighbors? Are you talented when it comes to arts and crafts? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you have the potential to start your own online selling business. The only limit is your imagination.
My buddy and I weren’t too talented when it came to arts and crafts, but we were good at designing novelty items that sold well on eBay. We also created a sort of consignment for our friends and families. They would give us their old stuff and we would do the legwork for them for a fee. Their basements and attics were cleared of the clutter and we both profited.
